Celebrating International Women's Day 2017

On Wednesday 8th March 2017, after the early morning downpour and amid the intermittent drizzle, 24 dedicated stallholders made their way to Hornsby Mall for a day of celebration on International Women's Day. The hashtag #BeBoldForChange was one of the themes, the other was to encourage women to see that 'Nurturing Starts with You'. We cannot look after others if we are not looking after ourselves. At some point we fall over and leave those we most want to support fending for themselves.

Our plan was to give women an opportunity to stop - take a break and reset the barometer on 'normal'! We did this with both experiences and with information - here is a mini snapshot of what was on offer!

In the 'hands-on' section women were offered mini facials and skin consultations, Esoteric Healing and massage, an opportunity to make flower crowns, a bra consultation, nail art and hand massages. There was an opportunity to get active with a couple of demo classes for Zumba and Body Combat in the open air! Businesses offered discounts for women on the day and guidance on mortgages, financial awareness, marriage celebrants, high visibility clothing. Each were able to share the challenges and benefits of starting a new business and the support services and structures available to guide business owners through that process.

Information on health and wellbeing also played a large part in the event - Hepatitis B, Domestic Violence awareness and support, services for migrants, the list goes on!

We conducted a survey and 100% of the respondents said they would come again and how much they valued the opportunity! The biggest tip they offered was to raise awareness and let more people know - so here you go...365 days to go till the next one folks :-)

The best way to show the day is in photos so a big thanks to the photographers on the day - Darren Hart from unreal photography and Nadia Kudiarskyj

- enjoy
